Autumn Storm, The Last of the Four-masted Schooners
1984 photograph by Toby Vandenack
Camera: Mamiya RB-67; Kodak Plus-X Pan Film
The four-masted schooners Hesper and Luther Little were retired at Wiscasset, Maine in 1932 in the tidal shore of the Sheepscot River. They remained there for over 60-years and became a popular tourist attraction. Slowly deteriorating over the years, they finally collapsed during an autumn storm in the 1990s. Photographs are the only evidence now that they ever existed.
